The ThermoLux heating pad is an electrically heated mat manufactured in Germany. It is made of water- and rot-resistant material and is also waterproof. The mats offer maximum safety thanks to a protective conductor integrated across the entire surface.
ThermoLux mats provide ideal heating for terrarium animals and plants.
Instructions for use
The mats are connected directly to the 230V mains supply with the plug and reach a maximum surface temperature of approx. 42°C at an ambient temperature of 20°C without a cover. However, the heating of the mat depends on the substrate, the ambient temperature and the amount of substrate to be heated (sand, mulch, water, etc.) and can take several hours to days. When operating without temperature limitation, overheating of the ThermoLux heating mat must be avoided, as a temperature increase to over 100 °C is possible, e.g. when inserted between dry substrates!
Use as a terrarium base
The mat should be placed under the terrarium in such a way that not the entire terrarium floor is heated, so that the reptiles can also seek out cooler areas. To avoid heat loss, the ThermoLux heating mat should be placed on a polystyrene sheet. To prevent the terrarium floor from warping due to thermal and mechanical stress, do not place the terrarium directly on the mat, but place spacers (e.g. wooden slats) between the mat and the terrarium floor along the entire length of the terrarium floor so that there is a gap of approx. 12 mm between the mat and the terrarium. This ensures even heat transfer. Check the temperature development on the surface of the soil substrate using a thermometer and adjust the distance according to the desired temperature. Ensure sufficient moisture to prevent the animals from drying out.
Use as a plant base
Place the mat on a window sill or directly in a hydroponic container or seed tray. Heat build-up caused by drying out of the substrate (soil, hydroponics) can be avoided by watering regularly. The temperature of the soil depends on the volume of the plant container and the ambient temperature. The ThermoLux temperature controller can be used to regulate the temperature. The temperature is then automatically maintained within the desired range. Temperature control is only sufficiently accurate in moist substrate.
