What is a terrarium?

• Rainforest terrariums (humid terrariums): For tree frogs, geckos and chameleons. They are characterised by high humidity, dense vegetation and water elements.
• Forest terrariums: A hybrid form that replicates the conditions of a temperate forest. They are suitable for a variety of animals such as corn snakes, king boas and turtles. Aquaterrariums (paludariums): These combine land and water areas and are ideal for water turtles, frogs and crocodiles.

Important factors when choosing the right terrarium

1. Size: The terrarium must be large enough for the animal to move around, climb, dig and hide freely. A rule of thumb is: the larger the animal, the larger the terrarium.
2. Ventilation: Good air circulation is essential to prevent mould growth and ensure good air quality for the animals.
3. Lighting and heating: Many terrarium animals require special UV-A/B lamps for vitamin D synthesis and to stay healthy. Heating mats, heating cables or heat lamps are also necessary to maintain the correct temperature. Furnishings (decoration): Branches, roots, caves and artificial plants create hiding places and climbing opportunities that encourage the animals' natural behaviour and give them a sense of security.
