Adsorb means to accumulate (as opposed to absorb = to take up). Adsorptive filter media are therefore materials that remove harmful substances from the water and accumulate or bind them. This could be chlorine from tap water, residues of medication or traces of cleaning agents, pesticides, dyes, etc.
EHEIM AKTIV
Active filter carbon with high efficiency - especially after medication treatment
EHEIM AKTIV is acid-washed and activated for automatic water absorption (active surface area 1200 m²/g). This activated carbon therefore binds chemical pollutants such as pesticides, drug residues and other substances very quickly and accumulates them in large quantities. The water in the aquarium becomes crystal clear.
It is particularly important to use it after treating the aquarium inhabitants with medication.
EHEIM AKTIV should only be used for a limited period (approx. 4 weeks) and then removed or replaced.
EHEIM AKTIV is used directly after the mechanical filter media (e.g. EHEIM MECH or MECHpro) and the biological filter media (e.g. SUBSTRATpro) in the mesh bag supplied with the filter.
Activated carbon for automatic adsorption
Quickly binds chlorine, pesticides and other chemical substances
Use e.g. after new installation or drug treatment
Use only for a limited time (approx. 4 weeks)
Suitable for fresh and salt water
Tip
Only use adsorptive filter media for a few weeks. As the pollutants only adhere, they can dissolve again after some time and be transported back into the water. At the very least, regular replacement is necessary. Adsorptive filtering is normally only necessary during the aquarium's start-up phase or after the use of medication.
